That answer was surgery. Since 2008, Janzen and Janzen Chiropractic has built Scoliosis Care Centers on a single conviction: for growing spines, there is almost always a better path — and it is our job to find it.
Every year, thousands of children and teenagers undergo spinal fusion surgery that could have been avoided with early, science-backed intervention. We exist to change that statistic — one family at a time.
We combine SOSORT-guided bracing, targeted physiotherapy, and radiation-free MRI monitoring under one roof. Our team of practitioners, clinicians, engineers, and therapy aides works in concert so that no part of your child's care is ever outsourced or lost in a referral chain.
"We believe success isn't just avoiding surgery — it is making the spine as straight as possible."
— Dr. Matthew Janzen, DC · Co-founder, Scoliosis Care Centers
Two brothers, one shared conviction. Dr. Matthew and Dr. Mike Janzen built Scoliosis Care Centers from the ground up in San Jose, California — and have never stopped refining their approach since.
Dr. Matthew Janzen is the primary architect of the Silicon Valley Scoliosis Method. With over 17 years of clinical experience treating adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, he has refined a comprehensive protocol that integrates custom bracing, physiotherapy, and MRI-guided monitoring into a single accountable care pathway.
Dr. Matt is known for his direct, evidence-based approach and his willingness to tell families the truth — including when other providers have made promises the evidence cannot support.
Dr. Mike Janzen leads clinical operations across both SCC locations. He has a particular focus on pediatric scoliosis cases and on building the trust of patients who have already been through discouraging experiences with traditional watch-and-wait or surgical pathways.
Patients describe Dr. Mike's care as having the warmth of a family practitioner with the technical depth of a specialist — and that combination is precisely what SCC was designed to deliver.
Every milestone in our history is a direct response to what our patients needed next.
Dr. Matthew and Dr. Mike Janzen open the first Scoliosis Care Centers clinic in the heart of Silicon Valley, treating children and teens from the greater Bay Area with a bracing-first, surgery-last philosophy.
SCC formally aligns its bracing and rehabilitation protocols with the Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) international standards — one of the first US practices to do so.
Frustrated by off-the-shelf brace limitations, SCC builds its own 3D scanning and device fabrication team to produce custom Rigo Chêneau and nighttime braces with precision impossible in outsourced manufacturing.
SCC becomes an early adopter of standing upright MRI for scoliosis monitoring, eliminating cumulative radiation exposure for growing patients who require regular spinal imaging throughout adolescence.
Responding to gaps in school-based scoliosis detection, SCC launches ScoliSnap™ — a community screening program that brings early detection events directly to schools and pediatric clinics across California.
Demand from families outside California leads to the opening of SCC's second full-service clinic in Oklahoma City, extending the Silicon Valley Method to the central United States.
With two clinics, an in-house engineering team, and families from six continents seeking care, SCC remains committed to its founding conviction: when it comes to scoliosis, surgery should be the last resort — not the default.
We tell families what the evidence actually supports. We do not make promises that are designed to close a case review rather than help a child.
Our in-house fabrication team means that every device is built to the specifications we set — not to whatever a supplier's catalog happens to offer.
Our methods in 2025 are measurably better than they were in 2015, because we treat every outcome as data. We have never stopped improving.
Observation, bracing, rehab, and monitoring all happen under one roof with one accountable care team. No referrals, no dropped handoffs.
